The use of exteriors gives the film a natural flow which makes one tend not to worry about any unconvincing elements, and the good quality of the copy / upload is an additional bonus. What we do get is an interesting drama which holds the attention well despite the lack of any music. Admittedly there is little or no camera movement, and indeed no visual pyrotechnics. The plot of THE LIGHTHOUSE-KEEPER'S DAUGHTER has many familiar elements, but I found it a most refreshing film. Another spot of unlikeliness is that Ewa happens to be rowing past when she spots her daughter, and all is set for a happy ending. For some reason the husband makes little effort to find his errant wife, and his new companion shows her fickleness in allowing their daughter to wander off while she is being chatted up by a couple of chaps. Ewa then flees, and is rescued by an elderly fisherman. This simply does not make sense, although one see's the wife's desperation here. The professor's daughter (the ex-fiancee!) tempts her to steal her father's treatise in order to help her husband, but has darker intentions. The film takes an unconvincing turn when the husband needs to write a treatise to obtain a professorship. After receiving a mysterious letter (never explained but possibly missing) he proposes, uprooting the poor girl to a rather stuffy existence where she is pretty well ignored by all, and seen as a hindrance to her husband's career and social life, although she has borne him a daughter. Therefore, viewers must be wondering if there is a connection between the two.

Carl Barckfield plays an academic who takes a holiday to recover from the fact that his fiancee was only interested in his money. Unlike the reviewer at IMDb, I enjoyed THE LIGHTHOUSE-KEEPER'S DAUGHTER (1918) very much, despite the odd plot hole and absurdity.
